The Rules.
1. Whatever kylarsk, elleeden or sweetaesthetic says goes.
This is not a democracy. We will uphold the spirit of the law above the letter of the law.
2. Don't be an a$$hole.
If you make us mad, you'll be dismembered (have your membership revoked).
3. Be active.
This website is for active artists. Disused accounts are deleted. If you go for months without even logging into your account, it's unlikely to still be here when you come back. We are not interested in hosting galleries for artists who have no interest in being a part of our community. So, if you're not going to be using your account for a long period of time, tell us before you go, to protect your account from deletion.
4. Complaints against other members
Complaints about the behaviour of another member in regard to following the rules should be directed to kylarsk, sweetaesthetic or elleeden, not to the member in question. That means, if you think someone's artwork or comment breaks one of the rules, you DO NOT complain to them, you complain to us, and WE deal with it.
5. Executions (artworks)
Artworks containing vilification of gender, race or sexual orientation are prohibited. You can shove your First Amendment. The first amendment we'll make is amending our membership list.
You must make a decent effort to categorise each artwork as accurately as possible.
You are required to make some kind of comment about the work in the description of each artwork. There is a sixty-character minimum (around ten words) enforced by the system, but you MAY NOT fill out this minimum with any kind of padding, or standard comment. Say something specific about the work - why/how/when you made it, what you were thinking, what you meant, anything.
If your artwork contains any elements created by people other than you, you must have their express permission to use it, and you must fully state their contribution to the work in the accompanying description. If we receive a complaint about an artwork, the onus will be upon you to demonstrate that you are not in violation of copyright. (This means absolutely no reproduction of commercial material of any kind. Movie stills, posters, publicity photos of celebrities, etc are all prohibited. You may use things like advertisements and corporate logos in a satirical context only. You may use artwork with expired copyright protection, typically 50-100 years old. You may use stock images, PROVIDING that you have contributed significantly to the final result, and you make it clear which elements you did not create.)
DO NOT use the community-only tag to conceal unauthorised content from outside view.
6. Content restrictions
Mature Content: The Mature Content tag is used to make the community more usable for members who do not wish to be exposed to nudity and other potentially offensive artwork.
Nude photographs (showing female nipples or genitalia of either sex) of persons under 11 years require no Mature Content tag.
Nude photographs (showing female nipples or genitalia of either sex) of persons 11 years or older require a Mature Content tag.
Photographs of persons under the age of 18 (regardless of nudity) of a sexual nature (portraying the subject as sexually desirable or sexually persuasive) or that are deemed to be sexually exploitative are prohibited.
Photographs of persons of any age which depict or imply sexual activity are prohibited.
Images showing female nipple in a breastfeeding context are exempt from requiring the Mature Content tag.
Drawings and paintings containing nudity, artworks with sexual, violent or horrific themes may or may not be eligible for the Mature Content tag. Artists are expected to exercise their best judgement. Subsequent rulings by the administration take precedence. If you think your artwork may be offensive to parts of the community, then please be considerate and use the Mature Content tag.
Images deemed by the administration to be obscene (meaning excessively offensive by the standards of the community as a whole) will be removed.
We do not have a ban on showing genitalia of the between-the-legs variety (male or female). BUT - you need to have an extremely good artistic purpose for showing it. If we decide, at our complete discretion, that it's there purely for shock value or titillation, your work will be removed. It cannot be the point of the image. This applies to all media, not just photography.
7. Quality Standards
The galleries on this site are for posting artwork, not random imagery that you would like to place online. They are not for wallpapers, avatars, icons, funny snapshots of friends, etc.
If you have miscellaneous snapshots to post in this community, you must use the scrapbook facility to post them in your journal. For this purpose, a 'snapshot' is defined as an image taken as a memento, or for purely social or informative purposes, without artistic intent.
Any image deemed unsuitable for our art galleries may be deleted by the administration, without notice. Typically, we will mark the offending artwork as "hidden" - you may then either delete it yourself, or explain to us why it should be allowed.
Works in progress are permitted (and certainly encouraged), on the condition that you MARK them as such, using the "Work In Progress" category. Commercial graphic design WIPs posted for the purpose of feedback should be marked "Community Only", and should be removed from your gallery once further feedback is no longer required.
8. Communication
Again, no bigotry, sexism, racism, anti-gay comments, etc. This is an Australian site, you'll be amazed at how hard we come down on this.
All artwork comments will be constructive. You may criticise, but you must do so in a specific and constructive manner. You may not say that you do not like an artwork without saying why.
You will be civil, all of the time.
Admins are able to delete artwork comments at the request of the recipient artist. Reposting a comment of yours on someone else's art after it was deleted is considered harassment, and is not permitted.
If a member requests that you cease communicating with them, you will respect that request until such time as they voluntarily withdraw it.
This is not a finishing school, and we are not social workers. We are not interested in improving your personality. So we do not have "temporary bans" or anything like that, we simply delete accounts. Remember kids, dismemberment is forever.
